The Way of St. James #37: From Aire-sur-l’Adour to Arzacq Arraziguet

It rained most of yesterday, and it was raining again this morning. I started out not long after 8 AM, and after topping up my water bottle, I reckoned that it was time to put on my raingear.

In so far as long distance walking presents a challenge to the will and the spirit of the walker, I guess this is it. It is not about whether you can walk 25km or even 30km in a day. The real challenge is can you walk 25km or 30km in the rain, and then get up the next day and do the same thing. And there may even be a third day to add to that.

But anyway, I made my way out of Aire-sur-l’Adure, and soon found myself in a disparate group of walkers all going the same way. I seemed to be behind the group until coming to Lac de Brousseau, And then I was part of that Group, one among many.

After lac de Brousseau, the route went upwards slight and flattened out. It stayed flat for most of the morning. And on the flat, the pace quickened, and the Group separated again.

And with the flat ground, I made better speed than expected, and I reached the little village of Miramont-Sensacq shortly after 12. The village is not very interesting, but it does have a boulanger, who also sells some drinks. I had a fruit juice and went on. A short time later, after working my way through some very muddy paths, I reached the church at l’Eglise de Sensacq.

I decided to take a detour from there. The previous section had a lot of muddy paths to reach l’Eglise de Sensacq. And according to the map, there would be more between the church and the next village. So I made a detour and took the road. And so I reached Pimbo. Pretty much everything was closed except the church.

After Pimbo, it was a straight run to Arzacq-Arraziguet, stopping only briefly to admirere the view of the way ahead. And then it was a case of just put the head worn and get there.

I got to Arzacq, tired from the journey, but with still enout energy to walk around the village and get my Creanciale stamped at the church.

Once again, I have just had an excellent dinner

And my step count for the day was 47,678.
