We are into April, and it is time to look at what has been achieved in the first quarter.
Remember that the objectives for 2018 included some significant walking projects as well as ending the year with at least as many steps as in 2017. In 2017, I recorded 6.3 million steps for the year, so that is the target for 2018. That means that I should have recorded between 1.5 and 1.6 million steps in Quarter 1 of this year.
When I did a review at the end of January, things had not gone well that month. However, there has been a lot of pick-up since then, and the figures at the end of March are much healthier. Let’s look at how things have gone and compare with 2017.
| Total Steps | Daily Average | |||
| 2017 | 2018 | 2017 | 2018 | |
| January | 515352 | 490422 | 16624 | 15820 |
| February | 476519 | 449950 | 17019 | 16070 |
| March | 510315 | 553147 | 16462 | 17843 |
| Total Quarter 1 | 1502186 | 1493519 | 16691 | 16595 |
So overall, the average for 2018 is about 100 steps per day less than in 2017. But with better weather coming, and major projects in planning, there is every prospect for making up this shortfall. The total for the quarter, at 1.49 million steps is just off target, but definitely recoverable.
Overall, it looks like I can achieve the 2018 objectives even if I am not exactly on track.
